The College of Forestry is seeking an Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

As a member of the College of Forestry Student Services Office, the Academic Advisor supports COF undergraduates' academic planning and success using developmental advising skills. They interpret and explain university academic policy and procedure, and assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.

The College of Forestry ( COF ) is one of OSU's 11 colleges, comprised of three departments offering undergraduate and graduate degrees to a student body of approximately 1300 students. As the top-ranked University-level Forestry program in the country, it is a primary resource for information on forest-related issues and education.

This position will provide academic advising to an assigned caseload of approximately 275 undergraduate degree-seeking students in the College of Forestry. Advising assignments may include a mix of students enrolled at the Corvallis campus and online learners in OSU's Ecampus. Advising assignments by major and/or campus can be adjusted as necessary to meet student advising needs as student headcount changes. The Advisor reports to the Manager of Advising & Academic Relations/Head Advisor.

All duties include working with diverse student populations representing a variety of backgrounds, needs, and skills. Important aspects of the work include developmental advising; strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; attention to detail; technical skills; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and collaboration with other units within the College and the University.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires Bachelors Degree in field relevant to work assigned. Experience advising students on degree completion requirement and academic standards.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in discipline of choice
  • Previous experience working with college students in duties such as advising, academic success, academic coaching, counseling, orientation, student support services, teaching, student activities, recruitment, or retention
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Committment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the position and as a member of the College of Forestry community
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain student records accurately and with confidentiality
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently as well as being a contributing member of the team
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a changing environment
  • Technical skills and experience with software for word processing, spreadsheets, database management, information management, and electronic tools that might be used to advise students (e.g. video-conferencing, online forms and workflows, digital documents)


This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Type:

The ability to work some evenings/weekends as needed to support College events is required. This position is based on the Corvallis campus and work is conducted primarily in the office. Limited remote work options (typically one remote day per week) can be arranged with the supervisor after successful completion of training and onboarding.
