Position:

Grounds Worker

Description:

Leads and participates in institutional grounds maintenance. Prepares soil, seeds, rolls, cuts, weeds, waters, and trims lawns. Sprays, prunes, and trims orchards and shrubs. Plants, transplants, and thins trees and shrubs. Removes dirt, rubbish, snow, leaves, and other refuse, and assists in the maintenance of roads, lawns, sheds, benches, and parking areas. May plan snow removal or direct the operation of snowblowers and salt spreaders. Ensures non-cultivated areas are properly maintained. Provides assignments and instructions to employees, supervising performance of grounds work. Ensures proper use and storage of equipment, materials, and supplies. Reports unusual occurrences and maintains safe, orderly conditions. Prepares reports on individuals assigned to grounds work.

Requirements:

May be required to perform assigned duties within buildings or manual recording and information systems as used by the agency, office, or related units. May need to supervise or direct patients, inmates, or individuals assigned to grounds duties. May be required to undergo fire training classes (in the Department of Human Services). Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and manual systems.
