Strong leadership, management, and customer service are the heart of our operations at GXO Logistics. As the North America Trade Compliance Manager you will support the Senior Manager, Trade Compliance in the implementation and enhancement of our international trade compliance program globally, but with specific focus and responsibility for the USA, South America and at times APAC.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Establish export/import compliance standards, guidelines and compliance monitoring procedures for GXO’s operations in the USA and South America, supported by Senior Manager, Compliance and external trade compliance counsel.
  • Implement and manage ITAR / EAR, import and customs compliance control policies, procedures and resources through training programs, formal and informal communications, and process improvements.
  • Identify key opportunities for continuous process improvements, implement solutions to eliminate risk, and identify compliance deficiencies around the import / export functions.
  • Provide operational knowledge of special programs (i.e., FTAs, Tariff Suspensions, other tax or duty avoidance opportunities as well as Sections 321, 301).
  • Have experience of working with DCSA requirements and ensuring GXO achieves and maintains compliance.
  • Keep abreast of laws and regulations regarding brokerage, ITAR, EAR compliance and develop specific programs to ensure that personnel are adequately trained and equipped with the knowledge to maintain a compliant environment.
  • Provide operational and reporting support for queries related to ACE.
  • Research foreign import/export regulations relating to company’s import/export activities.
  • Assist business units with customs-related issues - import, export and customs compliance.
  • Oversee compliance of ITAR and EAR sites and implement process improvements to mitigate risks.
  • Support the standardization of trade compliance processes and assist with trade compliance-related matters relevant to the North/South American offices.
  • Carry out checks Restricted Party Screening and Enhanced Due Diligence system and identify improvements as necessary.
  • Support and assist with other aspects of the Compliance team work as required, such as compliance audits and visits, reviews, awareness and training on the GXO Code of Business Ethics and its associated policies anti-bribery and anti-trust.
  • Keep abreast of changes to general trade regulations which may affect GXO.
  • The role will require travel primarily within the USA and South America

What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience or 5 years of relevant work experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5-10 years of work experience in U.S. import/export regulations and trade compliance.
  • Expertise in U.S. customs software and systems, ACE and EEI filings.
  • Experience with Mexico and Canadian customs.
  • Expert knowledge of export regulations, HTS classification, ITAR and EAR.
  • Significant knowledge about United States economic sanctions regulations, with particular emphasis on the Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC) sanctions and general knowledge about U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry Security (BIS) and U.S. State Department, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) export control regulations, Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skill including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Travel Requirement: up to 25%

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Licensed Customs Broker, strongly preferred
  • Free trade qualification experience (USMCA and IMMEX)
  • Knowledge of the logistics and / or supply chain business
  • Experience working with 3PL customers on import and export issues
  • Knowledge of FAR and DEFAR compliance
