Job Description

Job Summary: California public schools are actively hiring passionate and enthusiastic Drama/Theatre Teachers at all levels—elementary, middle, and high school—for the upcoming school year. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned drama and theatre arts curriculum suitable for diverse student populations and various grade levels.
  • Teach acting techniques, stagecraft, dramatic literature, improvisation, and performance skills.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages students to explore their creativity and express themselves through drama.
  • Direct and produce student performances, plays, and theatrical showcases for school and community audiences.
  • Evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow teachers, administrators, and families to support student success and enrich the school community.
  • Manage classroom practices aligned with district policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Single Subject Credential in English/Drama or eligibility to obtain credential (California offers credential reciprocity for out-of-state educators).
  • English Learner (EL) Authorization or eligibility to obtain from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Prior experience teaching drama or theatre arts to diverse student groups is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and fostering student creativity and self-expression.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to actively engage students through instructional activities, including demonstration, directing performances, and set management.
  • Effective visual and auditory capabilities necessary for classroom instruction and theatrical productions.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, Drama, Performing Arts, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range: $56,155 – $117,259 annually, based on experience and education.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and retirement contributions.
  • Additional stipends may be available for advanced degrees or extra responsibilities.
